Do you feel that Montessori is a lifestyle rather than an educational method alone? Come help us grow the first authentic Montessori community on the beautiful tropical island Curaçao. At The Montessori School, we believe that a timeless education will enable children to successfully navigate our changing world. Today and tomorrow.
The Montessori School is seeking AMI trained teachers to for the toddler (18 months to 2.5 years), primary (2.5 years to 6 years) and elementary (6-12 years) classrooms.
The guides will have the unique opportunity to help grow the first authentic Montessori environment in Curaçao. The toddler and elementary guides will be able to design a beautiful Montessori classroom with state-of-the-art materials from leading manufacturers as well as local artisans. Each classroom will have three AMI qualified Montessori guides, each speaking their own native language (either English, Spanish or Mandarin) and thus contributing to the tri-lingual environment we strive for. Each co-teacher will develop and present the full language curriculum to ensure that every child gets the opportunity to learn and later refine the three languages according to their interests and own pace.
Each classroom will include indoor and outdoor spaces. Typical classroom ratios are 1:6 for toddlers and 1:12 for primary and elementary students. In addition to creating the learning environment, the guides will also actively promote the school, mentor the next generation of Montessori teachers and build the Montessori community on the island.
The school hours are from 7 am to 6 pm offering half and full day options and extended care to parents. AMI qualified guides will work in shifts of eight hours with breaks between 7.30 am and 3.30 pm Mondays through Fridays. The AMI qualified guides will be assisted by a "floating" assistant to the extend necessary and who will guide the after care program.
Good salary, basic health insurance and pension according to the national scheme, paid time off, and generous tuition discount.
The Montessori School Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to introducing and championing the Montessori lifestyle in Curaçao. The foundation aims to achieve this goal through The Montessori School that will offer half and full day programs (including before and aftercare) from eighteen months to twelve years in a tri-lingual learning environment. We believe that when the youngest members of our community are supported by an environment and educator that are sensitive to their developmental needs, they can be guided to reach their full potential. Through The Knowledge Lab we will make the Montessori lifestyle accessible to our entire community through small-scale events.
The Montessori School will add an adolescent program in the near future. This Montessori Village will be a mini-society where the teens will be able to follow the Montessori curriculum as envisioned by Maria Montessori. There will be a farm, a café, (work)shops as well as a home for seniors with dementia. We will work with experts in the field of Montessori for this group to provide our elders with a safe environment to thrive.
Curaçao (formerly part of the Netherlands Antilles) is best known for its beaches tucked into coves and its expansive coral reefs rich with marine life. However, the island has it all. History buffs will love strolling through the quaint streets of the capital Willemstad, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Relax at the end of the day in a warmly-lit café listening to a jazz quartet, lounge at a trendy bar or visit the countless restaurants where even the most discerning foodies will find a dish that will please their palate. Witness the island come alive during the big events held throughout the year- from music festivals in the summer to the traditional King’s Day celebrations and the end of year parties.

is a co-founder and the head of school at The Montessori School. She started the school in an effort to create an environment where her daughter would learn the tools she needs to be independent, develop creative and critical skills and become well-rounded, kind individuals for a better society. But the school became much bigger than that and the ultimate goal is to educate well-rounded human beings and citizens that are able to propel Curaçao (and the world!) forward.
